Norfolk Roller Derby began in 2010 and has, over the past 16 years, evolved from a single women's team to become the expansive league that it is today.

Based in Norwich, we are Norfolk's first and only roller derby league. We are comprised of two WFTDA gender policy-aligned teams as well as one all genders mixed team. We are entirely member-led and operated, and take pride in giving people who have never skated the skills to skate and play roller derby. Our members coach, referee, and officiate one another, supporting the league in its growth and supporting one another on our shared journey.

Our Mission

Norfolk Roller Derby (NRD) exists to provide opportunities for people in Norfolk to participate in roller derby and develop physical, social and personal skills through accessible and inclusive sport.

Our mission is to make roller derby accessible to people of different ages, genders, backgrounds and levels of experience, including people who have never skated before. Through regular training, coaching, officiating, competition and participation in community events, we help our members develop physical fitness, confidence, teamwork and social connections.

Safety

Safety is an important part of participation in roller derby. At NRD we promote the development of:

  • strong skating skills

  • roller derby skills

  • safe participation

  • Adherence to the WFTDA rule set

All members are expected to respect the rules and spirit of roller derby, contributing to a safe and respectful training space. We provide opportunities for to develop not only skills as skaters, but also through officiating, with regular Ref/NSO schools run by our Officials Committee.

Pride in Community

Norfolk Roller Derby is proud to be involved in our local community and is active in celebrating Norwich Pride and Trans Pride, as well as other events throughout the year.

As an Official Supporter of Norwich Pride, we pledge our organisation will be a safe, welcoming, and friendly place for LGBT+ league members and supporters. We will visibly support and promote equality for LGBT+ people, challenge homophobic and transphobic behaviour, and have clear reporting mechanisms for harassment and discrimination.

We are a registered community amateur sports club (ID: CH10050) who train primarily at Sewell Park Academy, Constitution Hill, Norwich.
